In the beginning...

In the heady days between the dawn of man and the release of Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet, newspapers were one-way conduits of information. Sure, you could write a letter to the editor, but let's face it: that shit was for cranks and the terminally ill. Then, gradually, newspapers began dying off. In an effort to remain relevant, they put all their shit online and allowed readers (or users, if you're an asshole) to leave "comments" on said shit. Suddenly, any half-wit with a Dell computer and a free AOL disc (remember those?) could post his or her worthless opinion online. Better yet, they could do so anonymously.
